====== How to fix a circle-scratched PS1 disc ====== Eldoug gives us a great description on how to do this on his YouTube channel: {{youtube>CFzAAMn9Bno?}} ===== Description of the process: ===== - Obtain car scratch remover polish like "Scratch X 2.0" or similar products found at auto parts stores. Novus polish can also work. - Apply a thin coating of the scratch remover polish all over the scratched area of the disc using a cotton ball. Enough to coat the entire disc surface. - Using the cotton ball, polish the scratched area by making small, concentric circular motions following the path of the circle scratch. Apply firm pressure. - Listen for a squeaking sound - this means the cotton is rubbing against the polycarbonate surface and you need to reapply more polish. - After polishing just the circle scratched area, do a general polish of the entire disc surface using larger circular motions and lighter pressure. - Wipe off the polish residue with a clean microfiber cloth. Inspect the disc to see if the scratches have been reduced. - Repeat steps 2-6 as needed, polishing the entire surface each time and applying more pressure on stubborn scratches. This may take 20-30 minutes of polishing. - For tough scratches, add a few drops of water to the disc surface when polishing to help break up the polish residue. - Once satisfactory, give the disc a final wipe down and try playing it in the system to test if it reads properly. - Be patient and repeat the polishing process as much as needed to eliminate scratches and get the discPlayStation working again. **The key is using a car polish, polishing the scratched areas with firm pressure, and polishing the entire surface multiple times until the scratches are reduced enough for the disc to read properly.**
